I love mind-maps, I find them to be fantastic mental organisers of thoughts and ideas. I am forever writing notes and connecting them with lines and arrows. I cannot remember how I tripped over it, but a couple of years ago I discovered SimpleMind, installed it onto the ol’ iPad, and fell in love…
I highly recommend giving it a whirl, I cannot remember if I had to pay for it, but if I did it would not have been very expensive and it has certainly been worth it.
Fellow student Talitha recently blogged about using pencil and paper to collate her ideas for her unit plan, and I will strongly suggest to her that she give this app a chance to provie itself. It can be used on a computer/laptop, or tablet, and would be a fun experience for students in learning how to map their thoughts and plans for assignments and so on.

I am very interested in this mind mapping tool, and am thinking how it can easily be integrated into my unit plan for Assignment 2. It looks really effective, and seems to produce top-quality maps. Great blog post Jacqueline! I’ve experienced making a few mind maps on the laptop and iPad before and they’re very handy 🙂 The specific app you mentioned is great! I downloaded it on my iPad and tried it out; it’s very simple to use! The Pro-version is $9.99 🙂 I still use pen + paper most of the time because if I don’t physically write out my notes I tend to forget my thoughts/ideas the next time I re-visit for a study sesh! I require something tactile and I think that’s the kinaesthetic-learner in me 😛 I will definitely use this app for neatly presenting my final ideas though! It’s wonderful 😀

Hi Talitha, thank you for your comment! I am glad you like SimpleMind as much as I do. I did try that one that David recommended but just couldn’t get my head around it, it was too difficult. I am going to get the desktop version too, it’s like maybe $40-50 or something, but I think it would be very worth it.
